Ethics- the art of living good life.

Ethics is a set of standards, benchmarks that society approved, places on itself and which help guide behavior, choices and actions. The word ‘ethics’ is derived from the Greek word ethos (character) . and from the Latin word ‘ mores’ (custom). Ethics is a branch of philosophy that is concerned with human conduct. It consists of a code of conduct of human beings living in a society. Ethics examines the rational attitude for our moral judgment.  It studies what is morally right or wrong.

Ethics and MoralityMorality can be an individual set of commitments even when they are not supported by others, but one cannot be ethical alone. Ethics brings other people for the realization of the self. Morality does not demand acquiescence from others the way ethics does.

Ethics and Feelings
Many people tend to equate ethics with their feelings. But being ethical is clearly not a matter of following  one’s feelings. A person following his or her feelings may recoil from doing what is right. In fact, feelings frequently deviate from what is ethical.

Ethics : relevance
Ethics may be defined as the systematic study of human activities from the point of view their rightfulness or wrongfulness. It is the reflective study of what is good or what is not to good in that part of human conduct. Ethics is related to two things . first , ethics refers to well-founded standard s of right and wrong that prescribe what human ought to do in terms of betterment of society. Secondly, ethics refers to the study and development of one’s ethical standards.

Ethics determines individual’s thought and action. It is not to suggest that the relation between the two is that of ‘cause and effect’, but it may create platform where thought s are converted to action.

Society contains a lot of fundamental units , of which human being is fundamental and paramount as the behavior of human determines the nature and structure of society and the values surrounding it. Here comes the role of ethics which guides the human action to pave the way for peaceful , cooperative  and healthy society.

In our changing world, due to rapid changes in technology and the borderless global environment, any country needs to have ethical guiding principles. Ethics is an attempt to guide human conduct and it is also an attempt to help man in leading good life by applying moral principles. Ethics is a matter of practical concern. It tries to determine the good and right thing to do ; choices regarding right and wrong , good and evil, . Ethics is to consider the practice of doing right action or what we may call  the ‘ art of living the good life’.
